I have heard plenty of sexual people complain that our society is too sexual...especially when it comes to the constant pressure for women to be sexy.

As for imposing your views on others: only some people do this, but it really annoys me when asexuals complain about the sexual nature of our society and the constant reminders of sex in television and advertising etc. The thing is, the majority of people are sexual in some fashion, and if I am not allowed to express my sexuality I think I will go crazy. My point is that even asexuals "impose their personal experiences on others," which j didn't mention.

Well put, j :)

And I like aXVX's analogy- it seems really ridiculous to accuse someone of liking the dentist just because they go there to get a filling or something... desire isn't the ONLY motivation to do things, after all... :-P

I totally agree. I think sexuality is given to us biologically. Asexuality is not any different from heterosexually, bisexually, and homosexuality. I'm so tired of people trying to impede on others sexuality just because their experience of coming into their own sexual truth is a certain way. Bisexuals seems to believe all other sexualities are just underdeveloped bisexuality, heterosexuals seem to think every other sexual expression or lack of is a perversion, homosexuals think bisexuals are just in transition to homosexuality and all of them exclude asexuality as a real orientation altogether. I really think people need to stop imposing their personal experiences on everyone else.

I agree, why would someone do something for which one has no desire except if there were good reasons - like going to the dentist because it is in your interest. The thought of needing confirmation is heterosexist or at least 'sexualist' - i suppose a heterosexual or homosexual needs a desired sexual experience to confirm that they are what they imagine to be.

Having to experience sex doesn't make sense to me, either. Why would we have to jump through more hoops than anyone else? There are plenty of things that people say they "just know", and that's how I know I'm asexual. Even though I'm very anaylitcal, I just found something that described me decently and stuck with it. And really, that's already more hoops than most heterosexual people go through.
